Town Hall April 18, Phoenix

Nearly 100 people attended a Town Hall organized by Judy Whitehouse on April 18. Coalition members Dr. Jonathan Weisbuch, Dr. George Pauk, and RN Nancy Martin were among the panelists.

Dr. Weisbuch demonstrated how there is more than enough money going into the system to cover everyone with comprehensive care — if HR 676 were enacted. He also discussed tort reform and explained how HR 676 would help control costs.

Dr. Pauk commented on HCAN (Healthcare for America Now) noting that HCAN advocates for a mixed health care system which includes private for-profit insurance as well as single-payer. He pointed out that this would not be effective reform.

Nancy Martin shared true patient stories to illustrate how our current health care system is harming the very patients it is supposed to be healing.

The event was sponsored by the Progressive Democrats of America, the National Nurses Organizing Committee, and Physicians for a National Program.

Presentation to Salt of the Earth Labor College, Tucson, April 25

Salt of the Earth Labor College and the National Nurses Organizing Committee (NNOC) hosted an educational meeting in Tucson on April 25. Coalition member Nancy Martin, Registered Nurse, gave a power point presentation.

The slide show highlighted the need for reform, compared options for reform, and debunked some of the myths surrounding the single-payer solution. The audience enthusiastically participated in a question/answer period afterward.

NNOC representative David Glenn encouraged participants to join forces and organize a sister Coalition in Tucson to promote a state and national health program.
